SEO Freelancer UK
My name is Owen Mcconaghy and I’m an SEO Freelancer in the UK, providing services throughout the UK. With over a decade of experience supporting both small local businesses and large corporate clients, I take a data driven approach to SEO and deliver businesses real world results that grow your business.
SEO Freelancer Services
My freelance SEO services help your business grow and drive more revenue by increasing organic traffic and attracting your target audience.
National SEO
National SEO helps businesses across the UK appear nationwide by targeting broad search terms, increasing visibility, attracting more customers, and supporting growth beyond just one local area.
Local SEO
Local SEO focuses on your local area and nearby searches, helping you attract customers and increase visibility. It’s usually easier to rank for local terms compared to national SEO because there’s less competition.
SEO Migration
The process of SEO migration is moving a website to a new domain, platform, or URL structure while making sure its search engine authority, rankings, and organic traffic are preserved.
eCommerce SEO
Ecommerce SEO improves an online store’s visibility in search engines to attract more visitors and drive more sales, with a main focus on optimizing product pages and category pages.
Content Writing
Content writing is the process of creating relevant content and conducting keyword research to help your website rank higher on search engines and attract your ideal audience.
On-Page SEO
On-page SEO involves optimising individual web pages, including meta titles, meta descriptions, H1–H6 tags, URLs, images, content, internal linking, schema, and more.
What does an SEO Freelancer do?
As an SEO freelancer I take a full look at your website, your competitors and your business goals, and then create a strategy that helps your business rank for the keywords that your customers are actually typing into Google.
To do this I carry out detailed competitor research so I can see who you are up against and what is already working in your industry and get a idea of the standards we are up against. I then work on your on page SEO by reviewing your content, making sure it is relevant, clear and matches the intent behind what your customers are searching for. I also help build a strong backlink profile to improve the authority of your website.
On the technical side I make sure your site can be crawled and indexed by search engines, that it loads quickly and that the internal linking is strong so search engines can find and understand your pages..
SEO is often misunderstood as being just one thing. Some people think it is all backlinks, others think it is only about good content. The truth is it is a combination of everything working together. You can have the best content in the world, but if search engines cannot crawl it, it becomes worthless.
Why choose an SEO Freelancer over an agency?
One of the questions you are probably thinking about right now is whether to choose an agency or a freelancer. It is easy to assume that an agency is bigger and therefore better, but that is not always the case. When you work with me you are working directly with someone who has spent almost a decade in this industry, from supporting small local businesses in my area to working in house for large corporate companies such as Best Western. I have seen SEO from every angle and understand what work’s and what doesn’t.
There are definitely some great agencies out there, but many of them are full, selective, or charging a significant fee to cover the cost of running a large team. Working with me is different. I do not have those overheads which makes my service far more affordable while still giving you genuine experience and the standard of work you would expect from a senior specialist.
I do not outsource any of the services I offer. Every aspect of the work, from the technical SEO to the on page optimisation to the reporting, meetings and calls is done by me personally. When you need to speak to someone, you are speaking to the person doing the work, not an account manager and not someone still learning the ropes.
I also do not take on every client who contacts me. I always limit the number of clients I work with because SEO takes time, research and constant monitoring. It is not a few clicks and you are finished. It is something that needs full focus and a hands on approach. To deliver the best results I keep my workload controlled and only take on clients where I know I can give the time needed to get the right results.
Who do I offer my Freelance SEO services to?
The most common clients I work with are small and medium sized businesses that want to grow but are not sure where to start with SEO. Many of these businesses know that their competitors are ahead of them organically and that they have been relying on paid ads a little too much. They understand the importance of being visible online, especially with how much the world has changed. You cannot rely on word of mouth alone anymore. There are thousands of people searching online every day for the services they offer, and if they are not showing up, they are not getting the calls.
Sometimes a business already has someone in house, but they may not have the right level of experience or confidence with SEO. In these cases they come to me for a clear strategy, a full audit and guidance on what needs to be done. I provide this support and work closely with them so they can move forward knowing what they’re implementing is correct. In other situations clients want me to handle everything from planning to ongoing optimisation and performance, and I take full ownership of the SEO work for them.
I also work with large corporations, including my current work with Best Western, where the focus is on growing their business and increasing direct bookings through their website with SEO. The scale is bigger, but the goal remains the same, to drive more direct bookings through the website by ranking above competitors like Premier Inn, Travelodge, and Booking.com
Every client is different with their own goals, budgets and expectations. My job is to understand what you want to achieve and come up with a strategy that fits your business, not a one size fits all package.
What makes me stand out
Accurate tracking
Before I start any SEO work, I’ll make sure that all tracking is set up and Is working correctly. This is essential so I can track all sales and enquiries that come through the organic channel, allowing us to clearly see what SEO is delivering. Without tracking setup, it’s impossible to get an accurate view of performance or understand the actual value SEO is bringing to your business.
Understanding your business
I’m always happy to catch up in person and even spend time on site when needed. I really value taking the time to understand your business in as much detail as possible, the more I know about how you operate, the better the strategy and results I can deliver.
ROI the metric that matters
I understand that ROI is what actually matters, not just clicks or impressions. My focus is always on the real return your business gets from organic traffic. I make sure we have an accurate, honest picture of what SEO is delivering so you can clearly see the value SEO is generating.
Frequent SEO Questions
Here are some of the most common SEO questions clients usually have.
How much does SEO cost?
The most common response you will hear from every SEO Freelancer is it depends, because it genuinely does. I will never offer SEO packages, because every project is completely different. Some websites hardly need any technical work, while others need a full technical overhaul. Some businesses need a complete content audit and content plan, while others already have strong content that just needs refining.
This is why offering a fixed package without understanding your goals, your website and the challenges you are facing is basically shooting in the dark. It does not make any sense at all in any circumstance.
When I work with a client I make sure to take the time to understand your business in good detail so I can tell you what is actually required. This way you only pay for the work you need, not a generic package that does not reflect your situation.
I will only ever offer custom quotes based on your business goals, the condition of your website, the work that needs doing and how quickly you want it completing.
Is your SEO service a monthly fee or a one off payment?
Sorry, I am going to say it again, it depends. The reason it depends is the same reason I mentioned above, every project is different and it all comes down to what you actually want and need.
If you want me to take on your SEO fully, create a strategy and implement the work on an ongoing basis, then this would be a monthly fee. This covers continuous optimisation, monitoring, reporting and making sure the strategy is being carried out correctly and is delivering results.
If you are looking for a one off audit and a strategy that you or your team can implement yourselves, along with training and guidance, then this would be a single one time fee.
It all comes down to the level of involvement you want from me and what is best for your business.
How long until I see results from SEO?
In SEO there are no guarantees, and anyone who tells you otherwise is not being honest. There are too many factors involved, from your competition to the age and authority of your website, to how quickly changes can be implemented.
What I can say is that I would usually hope to see some early improvements within the first three months of implementation. By improvements I do not mean jumping straight to page one. It could be things like more pages being crawled and indexed, keyword movements, or a page moving from page five to page three. These are all positive signs that the work is heading in the right direction.
SEO takes time, patience and consistency. A large part of how quickly results appear will depend on how fast we can implement the strategy, and that is linked to your available budget and the resources on your side.
Do you work with any other platforms than WordPress?
Yes, absolutely. Throughout my career I have worked with and even built websites on a wide range of platforms including WordPress, Magento, Wix, Squarespace, Shopify, Webflow and many more. I have also worked on completely bespoke websites with their own custom backend, so a different or unfamiliar platform is never an issue.
Most modern platforms already include the basic features needed to implement SEO, such as meta titles, meta descriptions and the ability to edit your page content. This usually gives me everything I need to make the SEO changes required. And if something is missing, it can normally be added through plugins, apps or a small amount of development work.
If your website is on a platform I have not come across before, I will usually ask to take a quick look inside the backend first. This is so I can confirm whether any development work is needed before the SEO recommendations can be implemented. If that is the case, I will always let you know before we start working together so you know exactly what to expect with no surprises.
Can you work with our in house team / agency?
I am more than happy to work alongside your in house team or agency. It is usually much easier and more efficient working this way, as everyone has their own tasks and responsibilities, and there is no expectation for one person to juggle everything.
If any web design or development changes are needed, I can speak directly with your developers and organise Teams or Zoom calls to walk them through exactly what needs to be done. I can also create clear briefs and use Figma to propose any design changes so your team has a visual guide to work from.
No matter how your business operates, my goal is to fit in and get cracking from day one. When I work with a client, I become a part of your team and work alongside you to make sure everything is implemented correctly.
Do you work with multiple clients in the same industry?
To prevent any conflict of interest, I am happy to work with multiple businesses in the same industry, but I will never work with two businesses who are targeting the same keywords or the same locations. That would not be fair, and it would be a clear conflict.
For example, if your business is based in London and you want to rank for searches around London, and another business in the same industry contacted me wanting to target the exact same location and keywords, I would not take that project on. However, if a similar business in Leeds approached me and they were looking to rank in Leeds, then there would be no conflict and I would be happy to work with them.
I have a lot of respect for my reputation and it is one of the reasons I have succeeded in the SEO industry and want to continue to do so. I will never put that at risk, so you can be assured that I will not work with another business who is targeting the same terms.
Will SEO Work for my Business?
If you have a service or product that people are searching for online, then the answer is yes. When you need something, what is the first thing you usually do? You Google it. It is the exact same way people find my services too. Most of my clients find me by typing in SEO Freelancer UK in Google.
If you want to get a clearer picture of the opportunity out there for your own business, a simple thing you can do is look at your main competitor. Go to SEMRush and use their free domain overview tool. It will show you an estimate of the organic traffic they receive, and this alone can be a real eye opener.
Why Choose Me
A few reasons why I think I am a good fit and we should work together, helping your business with SEO and achieving your goals.
Over a decade of experience in the SEO industry
When you work with me, you are working directly with a SEO specialist with over ten years of experience. I am not just the person you speak to in meetings, I am the one actually doing the work on your site too.
I started my career in the SEO industry back in 2015, and since then I have worked with a wide range of businesses across different industries and of all sizes. From small local SMEs with tight budgets to large national corporations investing thousands each month.
I get straight to the point and use my experience to create an SEO strategy that is going to deliver success. No guesswork, no shortcuts, just a clear approach based on what I know actually works. After more than a decade in this industry, I understand what moves the needle and what is a waste of time, and that is exactly the kind of expertise you can expect when working with me.
Fully transparent and honest
I will always tell you the truth about what is achievable, what is not, and what challenges you face. I do not hide behind complex words or confusing terminology that you may not understand. If there is an issue or a strategy we need to follow, I will explain it to you in a clear and simple way so you fully understand what we are doing and why.
If something will take time, I will tell you. If something is not worth your budget, I will tell you. If expectations need adjusting, I will be upfront about that too. I am not here to sell false dreams or promise things that are not realistic.
My reputation is built on honesty and transparency, and I will never put that at risk. With me, you will always know exactly where you stand, no unnecessary jargon, just a clear and honest approach to SEO that you can actually understand.
No long term contracts
Over the years I have worked with clients who have been drawn in by false promises from so called SEO experts. They are told everything they want to hear just to get them to sign on the dotted line, only to find themselves six months in with no growth, no results and stuck in a twelve month contract with early exit fees.
This is one of the main reasons I do not offer long term contracts. I work on a monthly rolling contract, giving you the reassurance that if you are not happy with the service or the progress, you can leave at any time without being tied down.
I believe you should stay because the work I am doing is delivering growth to your business, not because you are locked into a contract.
